During night driving, the driver must replace the use of high beams with dipped beams (low beams) whenever encountering other road users, including other vehicles, pedestrians, or animals. This measure is mandatory to prevent dazzling other drivers or animals, ensuring the safety of all those using public roads. Entering a motorway or a poorly lit built-up area does not, by itself, require turning off the high beams. On the contrary, on roads outside built-up areas or poorly lit roads, the use of high beams is often necessary to ensure adequate visibility, provided there is no encounter with other users or driving at a short distance behind another vehicle.
