The traffic lane visible on the right is an acceleration lane. This lane is intended to allow vehicles to increase their speed, adapting it to the existing traffic flow, in order to perform the merging maneuver safely. It is not an expressway, which is a road classification and not an individual traffic lane. Nor is it a deceleration lane, as the latter serves to reduce speed when exiting the main carriageway, nor a shoulder, which consists of the lateral strip of the road not intended for normal vehicle traffic.
