Artigo 85.º Documents the driver must carry 1 - Whenever a motor vehicle travels on public roads, its driver must carry the following documents: a) Legal personal identification document; b) Driving license; c) Insurance certificate; d) Tax identification document, if its number is not included in the document referred to in point a) and the driver resides in national territory. 2 - In the case of a car, motorcycle, tricycle, quadricycle, moped, agricultural or forestry tractor, or trailer, the driver must also carry the following documents: a) Vehicle registration certificate or equivalent document; b) Vehicle identification document; c) Vehicle periodic inspection sheet, when mandatory under legal terms. 3 - In the case of a bicycle or animal-drawn vehicle, the respective driver must carry a legal personal identification document. 4 - The documents referred to in the preceding paragraphs may be replaced by: a) Mobile application that allows verification of the data contained in the said documents, under the terms of paragraphs 1 and 4 of Artigo 4.º-A of Lei n.º 37/2014, de 26 de junho, in its current wording; b) Digital driving license, in the case of point b) of paragraph 1, under terms to be defined by ordinance of the Government members responsible for internal administration, administrative modernization, and transport. 5 - If it is not possible to verify the data on site in real time, under the terms of the preceding paragraph, the driver must, within five days, present the physical documents to the authority indicated by the inspection agent or send electronically the document retrieved from the application referred to in point a) of the same paragraph. 6 - The seizure of the driving license or vehicle identification document is carried out through: a) Delivery of physical documents, when the driver is carrying them; b) Electronic registration, when the driver replaces them under the terms of paragraph 4, and the physical documents must be delivered to the authority indicated by the inspection agent within five days. 7 - Whoever infringes the provisions of paragraphs 1 to 3 is subject to a fine of (euro) 60 to (euro) 300. 8 - Whoever, in the cases provided for in paragraph 5 and point b) of paragraph 6, does not deliver the documents within five days to the authority indicated by the inspection agent is subject to a fine of (euro) 60 to (euro) 300.
