The vehicle to your left is a fire engine, under the Highway Code it is classified as a veículo prioritário (a priority vehicle). When such a vehicle activates its special luminous and acoustic signals simultaneously, it is deemed to be responding to an urgent service, and from that moment it holds priority over all other road users, including yourselves. Your legal obligation as a driver is to facilitate its passage. This means you must reduce speed, move to the right and, whenever necessary, come to a complete stop until the vehicle has passed. Note that this duty applies even when you would otherwise have the right of way, provided you can do so safely.
